Premier League hopefuls to bank £40m one year on from failed £4m bid for Gers target - report

Kenny McLean could be the man to deliver the experience that Philippe Clement craves at Rangers.

The Belgian manager has been clear this week that the Ibrox side’s recruitment will now be changing tact after the early part of the window focused on securing a number of young talents.

With more experienced heads a must as Rangers lose a combined near-750 appearances from the dressing room, one English Championship Player of the Year has been extensively linked.

But as Rangers reportedly test Norwich’s resolve with interest in boyhood bluenose Kenny McLean, a team of potential transfer rivals could soon have an almighty £40m gap to plug.

McLean suitors bank transfer fortune

It’s not just Rangers who’ve been routinely linked with Kenny McLean over the years.

Sure, the Scotland international is always going to be mentioned alongside the Gers given his well-known allegiances to the blue sea of Ibrox.

But last summer Leeds United were reportedly keen on tempting the now 32-year-old midfielder to Elland Road as Daniel Farke reshaped the club’s midfield.

Reportedly having a £4m bid thrown out last summer, it was Leeds’ interest in McLean that led to the Canaries thrashing out a long-term contract for the midfielder which ties him to the Yorkshire side until 2026 at the earliest.

Leeds then went on to sign Bulgarian international Ilia Gruev and Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara before narrowly missing out on promotion v Southampton in the Championship Playoff Final.

With promotion in Leeds’ sights next season, the club could once again be on the hunt for more midfield options again this summer.

Not only is Glen Kamara reportedly a target in Ligue 1, but the Elland Road club are about to bank a whopping £40m from the sale of Archie Gray to Tottenham Hotspur.

The 18-year-old midfielder is regarded as one of the brightest talents in British football with Fabrizio Romano claiming Ange Postecoglou is once again set to open the chequebook.

Rangers still lead hunt

The news could have Rangers fans a little nervous when it comes to Kenny McLean and Norwich City.

The Canaries are expecting would-be Kenny McLean suitors to cough up and a move for the midfielder doesn’t exactly fit the revamped Ibrox player trading model.

If it comes down to a straight financial shoot-out then there is only one winner.

The good news is that whilst Leeds boss Daniel Farke is a known Kenny McLean fan, so far this window there have not been any fresh transfer links to the midfielder.

But with Leeds potentially set to lose two of their first-choice midfielders from last season, it’s a situation Rangers fans will be monitoring closely.

Norwich City fans meanwhile all say the same thing when it comes to the Rangers links.
