Cristiano Ronaldo breaks down in tears after missing penalty for Portugal in Slovenia Euro 2024 clash

Cristiano Ronaldo was left in tears after missing a penalty for Portugal in their Euro 2024 showdown with Slovenia on Monday night.

Roberto Martinez's side were given the chance to open the scoring from 12 yards after Diogo Dalot was bundled down inside the box.

Ronaldo stepped up, ready to seize his moment having failed to score a goal at the competition so far.

But the Al-Nassr star, a man who has so often stolen the headlines over the years, saw his effort brilliantly saved by Jan Oblak.

Ronaldo was devastated, utterly devastated after being denied.

The 39-year-old was supported by his team-mates, who rushed to console the forward.

Diogo Dalot, who played alongside Ronaldo at Manchester United, was on the scene.

To make matters worse, images of the Al-Nassr star blubbing were shown on the big screens at the Frankfurt Arena.

Pat Nevin, commentating on BBC Radio 5 Live, believes the penalty shouldn't have been given in the first place.

"I have to say, I think a bit of justice has been done there," he said.

"It's a very tough penalty on Slovenia.

"It's as good of a penalty kick as you'll see, he's leathered it.

"What a save. What a moment."

Nevin also had some strong words for Ronaldo, saying the former Manchester United, Real Madrid, Juventus and Sporting Lisbon star needed to 'get his head right'.
