TAMPA, Fla. - The Steven Stamkos era in Tampa Bay has come to a shocking end. The longtime captain, who helped lead the Lightning to two Stanley Cup victories, has signed a four-year contract with the Nashville Predators, according to multiple reports.
Stamkos' departure marks a significant shift for the Lightning organization. Drafted first overall in 2008, Stamkos leaves as the franchise leader in goals (555), points (1,137), and games played (1,082). His dedication and leadership were instrumental in transforming Tampa Bay into a perennial contender.
While emotional for fans, the move is largely attributed to salary cap constraints. The Lightning, already tight against the cap, were reportedly unwilling to meet Stamkos' asking price.

News broke that Tampa Bay offered an eight-year, $24 million contract, significantly less than Stamkos' desired term and value.
The Predators, with more cap flexibility, swooped in to secure the star center. Stamkos' four-year deal with Nashville carries an average annual value of $8 million.
