Champions League club make Gers link ‘main target’ as Man Utd line up £34m swoop - report

Rangers are on the hunt for additional firepower this summer as the club step up their Champions League Qualification hunt.

The Ibrox side are back at pre-season training but there is still much surgery to be done on a squad which is going through its biggest evolution in six years.

So far the club have added defensive duo Jefte (Fluminense) and Clinton Nsiala (AC Milan), with the swoop for Connor Barron (Aberdeen) set to go to tribunal.

Also completing more permanent deals for Mohamed Diomande (FC Nordsjælland) and Oscar Cortes (RC Lens), the club is still hunting additional strike power.

A move for Hamza Igamane is nearing completion but with the Moroccan potentially set to be called up for Olympic duties the 21-year-old could miss the Champions League qualifiers.

Now, one high-profile Rangers-linked forward has been labelled the ‘main target’ for a Champions League side who could soon have an almighty void to fill.

Rangers face Rrahmani competition

Albion Rrahmani has been one of the most written about Rangers-linked forwards this summer.

But as things stand there has been nothing concrete surrounding a potential Ibrox swoop for the 23-year-old Kosovan hitman.

Netting 19 goals for Rapid Bucharest last season, most of the sounds around a deal have come from the player’s homeland and from Romania.

Rrahmani himself has even reported for pre-season training with his full focus on Rapid who – inconveniently – are now managed by ex-Celtic manager Neil Lennon.

Pro Sport have since claimed that Rapid, despite reportedly insisting they wanted around €8m (£6.8m) for the player, were set to accept Sparta Prague’s improved €3m (£2.5m) bid for the player.

But now a report coming out of Macedonia of all places has claimed that Italian side Bologna have set their sights on Albion Rrahmani ahead of next season.

Man United domino to fall in Serie A?

Macedonian publication Zhurnal are claiming that Bologna – who secured a Champions League finish in Serie A last season – have made Albion Rrahmani their ‘main target’.

This comes with star striker Joshua Zirkzee now ‘99%’ sure to leave the club this summer.

According to the Mirror, the Dutch forward has a £34m release clause in his contract with Manchester United named as the frontrunner for his signature.

Whilst the Macedonian report also mentions transfer links between Albion Rrahmani and Benfica, as well as Werder Bremen, there is no mention of Rangers.

Italy has also proven a successful destination for fellow Kosovan footballer and Rrahmani’s namesake Amir Kadri Rrahmani, who has impressed with Napoli.
