'I'd say': Harry Kane says £175,000-a-week Man City star is actually his toughest opponent in England training

Harry Kane has made an interesting revelation about one of his England teammates who plays for Manchester City.

The Bayern Munich striker came to the Three Lions’ rescue in their 2-1 win against Slovakia — scoring a header from close quarters in extra-time, as he got on to the end of a clever Ivan Toney assist.

If England had lost the game in regulation time, perhaps fingers would have been pointed at Kane for missing a gilt-edged header late into the game despite Phil Foden’s inch-perfect delivery from a free-kick.

However, Gareth Southgate’s side fought to live another day, with Kane alongside the Manchester City trident of Foden, Kyle Walker and John Stones all heading to the quarter-finals of Euro 2024.

Harry Kane makes fresh revelation about Kyle Walker

While the 30-year-old is one of the best goalscorers in the world, going toe-to-toe against top Premier League defenders like John Stones, Marc Guehi, Joe Gomez, Ezri Konsa and Lewis Dunk must help him further hone his game.

Especially at the international level, where the former Tottenham Hotspur skipper faces defenders with varying profiles in major tournaments. For instance, while the likes of Stones and Gomez rely on their experience and composed decision-making at the back, Guehi and Konsa have a more front-footed style of defending.

However, when quizzed about his toughest opponent in England training by Pro Direct Soccer on TikTok, Kane named Walker.

The prolific goalscorer said: “Toughest opponent in training? I’d say Kyle Walker.”

Jude Bellingham also named the 34-year-old as his hardest opponent in training when he is playing with his national team.

Kyle Walker must know how Harry Kane operates better than most

With the £175,000-a-week man still being a top defender, it emerges as no surprise that even the England captain struggles to get the better of him.

However, one reason why Kane might find Walker his most challenging opponent in training is due to the time they spent as teammates at Tottenham.

Having trained and played with each other at Spurs for years, the Manchester City right-back must have gained an understanding of which zones of the final third the star striker is most dangerous in and the area from inside the box where he scores the most goals from.

As a result, Walker must likely pay special attention to Kane while defending against him as well.

In any case, with the pair being world-class players, competing against each other in training for years would only have played a role in their improvement.
