Bishop’s Stortford move home pre-season friendly against Hornchurch to 1pm on July 6 so fans can watch England Euro 2024 quarter-final

Supporters will get their first look at Bishop’s Stortford’s new-look squad when they entertain Hornchurch in a pre-season friendly on Saturday (July 6).

The match has been brought forward to a 1pm kick-off, with fans invited to stay behind at the RDA Stadium to watch England’s Euro 2024 quarter-final tie against Switzerland (5pm) in the bar.

New Blues boss Steve Castle currently has 12 confirmed players in his ranks, including three recent arrivals.

He has added his son and striker Charlie Castle as well as midfield duo Isa Rotimi and Louie Pullen. All three have previously represented the manager’s former club Royston Town.

There will also be a number of trialists involved at the weekend, with securing a new goalkeeper being one priority following the departure of Jack Giddens.

“We’ll have plenty of new faces, fresh faces, young faces and some recognisable ones,” said Castle.

“There are plenty of trialists in and lads we’re looking at. It’s my job to get the best we can with the budget we’ve got.”

Visitors Hornchurch powered to the Pitching In Isthmian League, Premier Division title last season, racking up 100 points and finishing 21 clear of their nearest rivals to earn promotion to Vanarama National League South.

“I hope the powers that be won’t mind me saying it might be a bit early for a new team to be playing a strong step two team, but it is what it is,” said Castle.

“It’s a process and a lot of patience is needed. It’s a whole new group of lads coming together.”
