Report: Leicester City have bid 'rejected' for £15m gem they have to beat Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca to

Leicester City have seen their opening bid knocked back for a player who is also a target for Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea.

Enzo Maresca caused quite the shock as he left Leicester City after just one season to take the vacant managerial role at Chelsea this summer.

Leicester had taken a real risk in appointing Maresca following their relegation from the Premier League in 2023, with the 44-year-old having only previously managed Parma at senior level.

It was a gamble that paid off as the Foxes won the Championship, but the club were forced to find a replacement following Maresca’s departure.

Steve Cooper was the man appointed and the new boss is looking to beat Maresca to the signature of an exciting attacker.

Leicester City see £15m Roman Sosa bid rejected

As well as the frantic scramble to appoint a new manager ahead of a return to the Premier League, Leicester have also spent the first part of the summer worrying about breaching PSR.

The deadline to comply with Premier League spending rules was 30th June, with it unclear at this stage whether Leicester have done enough to avoid punishment.

However, with that cut-off date having now passed, the Foxes can concentrate on signings to bolster Cooper’s ranks.

They look to have done that with a £15 million bid for Talleres winner Ramon Sosa, but journalist Bruno Pont has confirmed that the Argentinian side have rejected the opening offer.

According to Pont on ‘X’: ‘Andrés Fassi, president of Talleres, considers the amount of £15 million of Leicester of the Premier League for Ramón Sosa low’.

Pont also confirmed that Fassi said: “The offers that have arrived do not satisfy what the player represents.”

Pont went on to add in a further post that Talleres are after Sosa’s release clause of around £16 million.

Ironically, Maresca’s new club Chelsea also hold interest in Sosa.

Leicester are believed to be the first club to make an offer for the 24-year-old winger who is currently representing Paraguay at Copa America.

The international tournament takes place during the club season, but Sosa has so far scored seven goals and provided six assists in just 21 appearances this campaign.

An impressive return, Leicester will be determined to beat their former manager to the capture of the right-footed wide man who can play on either flank.

Chelsea look increasingly likely to take star man Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall from Leicester this summer, so the club cannot afford to also miss out on Sosa to Maresca.
