What Marc Guehi did behind the scenes during England 2-1 Slovakia

Marc Guehi has been arguably England’s best player at the 2024 Euros but he’s set to miss the quarter-finals against Switzerland.

England are now gearing up for a Euro 2024 quarter-final against Switzerland, despite winning just one game in normal time through the entire tournament so far.

Gareth Southgate has come under heavy scrutiny for his side’s dismal displays in Germany and it took extra time to get past Slovakia on Sunday which set up this coming Saturday’s fixture.

However, in this game, there is one huge blow and that is the absence of Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi who picked up a booking thanks to a ridiculous back pass by Kieran Trippier. This saw Guehi bring down the attacker and is now suspended for the quarter-final.

He will likely return for a prospective semi-final but could also have an injury scare to contend with after it’s been shared what he did at half-time against Slovakia.

What Marc Guehi did at half-time against Slovakia

While Guehi finished the game against Slovakia, he did so with a painful shoulder injury which caused him immense pain for much of the game.

The Selhurst Park centre-back suffered a twisted shoulder in a clash with Slovakian forward David Strelec and at half-time he required injections at half-time to deal with the pain.

If Guehi wasn’t suspended for this Saturday’s quarter-final anyway, there’s a chance he could’ve been missing it anyway.

This comes according to a report from the Daily Mail and showcases the warrior mentality that Guehi has and his desire to represent his nation during this tournament.

With interest from several clubs in signing him this summer, Guehi will be hoping the injury is nothing more than a nuisance for him and he gets to make another appearance in the tournament.

Marc Guehi has been a revelation for England

Prior to the tournament, England’s weakest position was seen as the left side of the centre-half duo considering the exclusion of Harry Maguire.

But now, it’s become arguably the strongest position thanks to Guehi as both full-backs have been awful, the midfield has struggled and in attack England is toothless.

Guehi at just 23 has made himself a now pivotal part of this England side and against Slovakia, he put in his best display yet.

He assisted Jude Bellingham’s equaliser and also completed 93 per cent of his passes (112 out of 121). Guehi won nine duels and made six recoveries and three defensive actions as he dominated in defence.
