‘I have seen they are talking’: Newcastle United’s Martin Dubravka speaks amid summer links to Celtic

The chat surrounding Martin Dubravka to Celtic takes another turn this morning after the Slovakian international exited Euro 2024.

Making three appearances at the tournament, Dubravka put in very good performances against Belgium and the final group game against Romania, the 35-year-old helped create history to take Slovakia to the knock-out stages of the Euros for the first time in their history.

After the 2-1 extra-time defeat to England, Dubravka can now head back to Newcastle United and thrash out his future after Eddie Howe added John Ruddy to his ranks yesterday.

With 20 goalkeepers linked to Celtic since Joe Hart announced his retirement, it’s not just Dubravka that needs clarity, the Hoops fans do as well.

Dubravka has ‘no idea’ about his Newcastle United future

After reports suggested that Newcastle had told Dubravka he had no future at the club, the Slovakian seemed genuinely surprised about the speculation surrounding him and what Eddie Howe is doing in the transfer market.

Dubravka said [Daily Mail], ‘I have no idea. I have seen they are talking with other goalkeepers. I need to speak with the manager first.

“What is the plan for me? What is my future? I don’t know if they want me to stay or not.

“It is difficult for me because I have been focused on my job with the national team.”

With Newcastle needing to meet the English Premier League rules regarding Financial Fair Play, Celtic could land Dubravka for as little as £1m.

However, with negotiations for Peter Vindahl Jensen motoring along, it seems that Dubravka may have to wait a little while longer to see whether or not Brendan Rodgers sees him as an option to bring to Celtic to replace the retired Joe Hart.

With Celtic set to embark on the USA Summer Tour this month, the fans will be hoping that they will be heading to the States with a new number one in their ranks.
