'Talks ongoing': Derby County now 'confident' of signing key Paul Warne transfer target - journalist

Derby County are confident of making Paul Warne’s key transfer target their fourth signing of the summer as talks continue.

On Friday, Derby signed Ben Osborn on a two-year deal following his release from Sheffield United.

The former Nottingham Forest player returned to the club where he started his career as a youngster and will provide much-needed cover in central midfield and at left wing-back.

Derby have since confirmed the capture of striker Kayden Jackson on a free transfer after spending six campaigns at Ipswich Town.

The 30-year-old was officially confirmed on Tuesday and was followed through the door by Jerry Yates, who arrived on loan from Swansea after completing his medical.

Derby have gone from being relatively quiet to extremely busy in the space of a few days and their business isn’t going to stop there.

Derby County are confident of landing Ebou Adams

In a recent interview with BBC Radio Derby, David Clowes confirmed Ebou Adams was still on the Rams’ radar, although he admitted there were a lot of players the club were looking at.

Recent reports have claimed that Derby and Cardiff City have held talks over a transfer for Adams, though there is no breakthrough at this stage.

Journalist Darren Witcoop has since added to the speculation by suggesting ‘talks are still going’ between the two clubs whilst there is confidence a deal can be struck.

Rams supporters will be pleased to know that negotiations haven’t gone cold and a deal to lure Adams back to Pride Park is expected to happen.

The 28-year-old was a revelation on loan from the Bluebirds last term, adding a defensive determination and grit that was otherwise missing from the squad.

In his spell from January onwards, the Gambian international made 17 appearances while Derby only conceded nine goals. It was a contribution that helped Warne’s men return to the Championship, and now they’re hoping he returns to the club.

Patience required in Derby County deal for Ebou Adams

Supporters will have grown increasingly frustrated that Adams still isn’t a Derby player but all the current variables point towards a deal being struck.

Adams wasn’t favoured by Cardiff manager Erol Bulut, and although he excelled in Derbyshire, that is unlikely to be the case heading into the new campaign.

The ball-winning machine is also entering the final year of his contract in Wales, meaning they have to sell him this summer or risk losing him on a free transfer in 2025.

A fee of £500,000 has previously been touted for Adams and whilst many expect Clowes to pay it, the longer it goes on into the window, the chances of that fee dropping increase as Cardiff become desperate to sell.

Judging by Witcoop’s latest update and the situation he finds himself in, it would be a huge surprise if Adams didn’t become a Derby player before the window slams shut.
