Denny Hamlin opened up about an encounter he had with Kyle Larson‘s spotter Tyler Monn while he was out in Nashville over the weekend. On the Actions Detrimental podcast, Hamlin revealed what he said to Monn when they met at a Nashville bar.

“I saw [Larson’s] spotter at a bar in Nashville. I told him to shut the f*** up,” Hamlin said. “…It was kind hearted. He was like ‘Hey I’m Tyler.’ I’m like ‘Oh hey, shut the f***up.’ We were laughing at the time, so we were all out during that time. It’s all good. I’m not complaining.

“Certainly, week in week out, the 11 (Larson) or 5 (Hamlin) are going to race for race wins more times than not. Clearly, we see how it’s going to go, and I think that we just need to continue doing this, and we’ll just see how it all nets out.

The reason Hamllin jokingly told Monn to ‘shut the f*** up’ is that is what Larson said to Monn last week during the New Hampshire Cup Series race when Larson and Hamlin were going at it. Monn told Larson he was letting Hamlin push him around, and Larson didn’t like Monn telling him how to deal with the three-time Daytona 500 winner.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. weighs in on the Denny Hamlin and Kyle Larson rivalry

NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt Jr. shared his thoughts on the Larson-Monn-Hamlin situation on the Dale Jr. Download podcast. “Kyle Larson, I think, is getting a bit tired of the prodding from those individuals that he relies on to support him. We’ve seen and heard this a little bit before, where his crew chief can be quite blunt and straight up with him, about what’s going on, or what he thinks he needs to do. Kyle Larson, you know, Kyle Larson’s not a guy that won’t use the bumper. Kyle Larson’s not a guy that won’t lean on you. He picks and chooses his battles,” Earnhardt Jr. said regarding Larson in the New Hampshire race.

“He can’t — in that instance, coming off Turn 4, [Denny] Hamlin decides to use him up and take the line away. There’s nothing really that Larson could’ve done to stop that. Now, the next time he gets to him, could he punt him up the race track? Yeah, and I think that’s kind of what they want to see him do. Let Denny know on the track that you’re sick of it, and you don’t want him to — in that situation, Denny, you’re not going to, next time we’re in that situation, you’re not going to take the corner. You’re going to give me room, you’re going to race me fair.
