Insider predicts Cowboys get deal done with CeeDee Lamb before training camp

With Dallas Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb expected to hold out of training camp in Oxnard, California if he doesn’t have a contract extension done before the end of the month, the pressure cooker is officially on “high” for Jerry Jones’ front office. With the stakes so high, there’s good reason to believe the Cowboys will try to get Lamb signed before the team departs the Star in three weeks.

According to DallasCowboys.com editor Nick Eatman, Dallas is likely to get the deal done in that timeframe. Breaking down which player is going to sign a new contract next, Eatman chose Lamb – for obvious reasons – and shared his timeline.

“My answer is CeeDee Lamb,” Eatman said of the next player to sign. “I would imagine it’s no different than anyone else. But we had the same question last year and I actually answered Terence Steele. The right answer would’ve been (Trevon) Diggs, but Steele and (Malik) Hooker weren’t far behind. My point is that could be anyone willing to do a deal. I’m ready for the curveball at any time, but I still think it’s going to be CeeDee and I think it’s done before we leave for camp.”

Getting Lamb his well-deserved extension before training camp would certainly alleviate a big headache for the team before the grind begins in Oxnard. Rookies and veterans alike are set to report for training camp in California on July 24.

Lamb subject to fines for missing training camp practices

If Lamb were to continue holding out, as he did during the team’s mandatory minicamp, he would be subject to fines. Those fines can amount to as much as $50,000 per day missed. He already proved he was willing to sacrifice short-term gains for his big payout when he lost out on roughly $100,000 for missing minicamp.

The other players in mind who could potentially sign new deals before the 2024 season begins are Zack Martin, Micah Parsons and Dak Prescott. Prescott and Martin are both playing on the final year of their contracts – though the offensive lineman has admitted this may be his last year in the league. The star quarterback, meanwhile, has very little incentive to sign a new deal this offseason considering the price tag will only rise by March of next year. As for Parsons, he has two years left on his rookie deal, including his fifth-year option, which Dallas exercised this spring.
