Paul Warne handed striker boost as 19-goal Derby County star signs new contract

Derby County have confirmed a new deal for one of their stars that helped lead a push towards League One promotion last season.

The Rams have already been busy in the past week, securing plenty of transfer busy to bolster Paul Warne’s squad.

Ben Osborn was the first Derby signing through the door, with the former Nottingham Forest man joining on a free transfer following the expiration of his contract at Sheffield United.

Kayden Jackson followed as the first attacking addition at Derby, landing a two-year deal for the forward after he left Ipswich Town.

Jerry Yates is the latest signing for Derby, joining from Swansea City on a loan deal until the end of the season.

With those moves confirmed, the Rams have a base to work with in pre-season training while talks continue over other deals.

There have still been some contract situations to wade through at Derby, with some clarity on those finally appearing.

James Collins signs new Derby County contract

With his deal expiring this summer, Derby moved quickly to extend the contract of star striker James Collins for the coming season.

The former Cardiff City man has penned a new one-year deal with the Rams, ensuring he will be part of the team that takes to the Championship.

Collins has been a key player at Pride Park since his move in 2022, bagging 19 goals across all competitions last season.

His contribution, both with his goals and his work off the ball, ensured he was a number-one choice up front for Warne.

James Collins’s importance at Derby

It’s clear that over the past two years, the 33-year-old has been an important player for Derby in stabilising and then earning promotion.

After missing out on another striker option in January 2024, plenty of those hopes of a top-two finish rested on Collins.

While injury fears kicked in during February, the striker still delivered and ensured that the team could celebrate a Championship return.

His role could well be reduced over the next season, but it’s clear that Derby could certainly use Collins for another season.
