Exclusive: Tottenham join race to sign wonderkid compared to Wayne Rooney after sealing £30m Archie Gray deal

  • EXCLUSIVE with Graeme Bailey

Tottenham have now joined the race to sign one of Europe’s most precocious talents.

Spurs have only just announced the arrival of another wonderkid after sealing a £30m deal with Leeds for Archie Gray – a player who seemed destined to join Brentford before Tottenham swooped in.

So, which top talent are Tottenham now hoping to sign after bringing Archie Gray to N17 as well? Let’s take a look…

Tottenham want Desire Doue

TBR Football understand that Tottenham have now joined the race to sign Rennes No.33 Desire Doue.

Sources claim that Spurs have scouted the 19-year-old across the past six months, and he is very high on Tottenham’s shortlist when it comes to signing a young winger this summer.

Club Brugge No.32 Antonio Nusa – who is also a target for Crystal Palace – is another top talent currently on Tottenham’s radar for the wide attacking positions.

TBR Football have also been told that Bayern Munich, RB Leipzig and Bayer Leverkusen admire Doue as well as Spurs, while Barcelona and PSG are monitoring the teenager too.

In fact, there were even rumours from France in the last few days which claimed that the Rennes wonderkid had chosen to join PSG – although these whispers are yet to be confirmed.

Spurs could sign the new Wayne Rooney

If Spurs can add Doue to Gray, the new Wayne Rooney could be joining Ange Postecoglou’s squad.

It was The Athletic who compared the France U23 international to the Manchester United legend, specifically mentioning the fact he possesses a robust physique – close to that of a fully grown man – when eulogising over the youngster’s potential.

The Angers-born wonderkid can play anywhere across the frontline, and registered ten goal involvements in 43 appearances for Rennes last season.

If Rennes fail to sell Doue this summer, he will only have 12 months remaining on his contract in 2025, potentially leading to a cut-price deal, so don’t be surprised to see a sale occur in the current window.
