Report: Wolves now interested in 'super professional' PL title winner Mario Lemina knows very well

Wolves are reportedly showing interest in another player from Scandinavia, after signing Jorgen Strand Larsen.

Wanderers have been busy so far this summer, with Strand Larsen the club’s third addition after Tommy Doyle and Rodrigo Gomes.

Pedro Lima has also been signed by Wolves, with fans just awaiting official confirmation from the club.

Wolves are set to make more additions this summer and one position Gary O’Neil might address this summer is the goalkeeper.

Jose Sa has been linked with an exit from the club in recent times, with Jorge Mendes apparently having been sounding out interest.

Should he go, then Wolves might target a former Premier League title winner.

It has been reported by Football Transfers that Wolves are interested in signing Kasper Schmeichel this summer.

The 37-year-old is now a free-agent, after just leaving Belgian club Anderlecht after one season.

The Denmark international, who made four appearances at Euro 2024, is understood to be keen on a return to England, after two years away.

He left Leicester City in 2022 and joined French club Nice, the former club of Wolves midfield general Mario Lemina. The pair were teammates, until Wolves poached Lemina in January 2023 for just under £10 million.

Schmeichel is obviously best known for impressing with Leicester City between 2011-2022. His highlight was undoubtedly winning the Premier League title with the Foxes in 2016.

His former manager Brendan Rodgers previously described Schmeichel as being ‘super professional’, ‘very, very competitive’ and ‘a brilliant goalkeeper’.

Schmeichel not a major upgrade on Sa

This is a fascinating claim, because Schmeichel is obviously coming to the end of his career now at the age of 37.

But seemingly, he fancies one last crack at the Premier League and Wolves appear to be keen.

It is stated by Football Transfers that it was actually Schmeichel who decided to end his time at Anderlecht. They had wanted to extend his contract by a further year via an option they had, but the player politely declined. So clearly he’s still playing at a decent level.

Schmeichel apparently also turned down an offer from Saudi Arabia in the hope of sealing a Premier League return.

We shall see what happens with Jose Sa this summer, but the Molineux number one finished last season in decent form and has been a good signing on the whole.

Schmeichel doesn’t feel like he’d be an upgrade. That said, the past comments from Rodgers are encouraging as is the fact he has a wealth of Premier League experience.
