Sky Sports journalist shares what West Ham could do next after their Jean-Clair Todibo bid was rejected

West Ham United have been busy on the transfer front over the past few weeks as Julen Lopetegui looks to bolster his new side’s ranks.

So far, the Hammers have brought Luis Guilherme to the London Stadium from Palmeiras, and have also signed veteran goalkeeper Wes Foderingham on a free transfer.

West Ham have been linked with a number of players in recent weeks, and now, according to numerous reports, they have launched a bid for a defensive top talent.

On Tuesday, it was reported that the Hammers had launched a bid for Nice’s Jean-Clair Todibo, a defender also linked with Manchester United and Tottenham.

However, not long after the initial reports came out, word spread that Nice had rejected West Ham’s offer.

Sky Sports News journalist Dharmesh Sheth has now provided the latest on the state of play involving the Hammers, Nice and Todibo.

West Ham mulling over potential new Jean-Clair Todibo bid

Sheth reported on Sky Sports – and on X – that West Ham have had a bid worth €30million (£25.4million) for Todibo rejected by Nice.

He then claimed that the Hammers are now discussing internally whether to go return with an improved offer for the defender.

Who is West Ham target Jean-Clair Todibo?

Todibo is a French centre-back who plies his trade for Ligue 1 side Nice and has won two caps for the France national team.

The 24-year-old, who stands at 6ft 3in, made 33 appearances for Nice as they finished fifth in Ligue 1 last season.

In 2023, Jacek Kulig of Football Talent Scout deemed Todibo “the complete package” and “one of the most underrated CBs in Europe at the moment”.

Todibo is a player in demand. As well as links with Man United and Tottenham, Arsenal have also been credited with an interest.
