Steidten issues Alvarez injury update and opens up on reason for meeting with Paqueta in Brazil

West Ham United director of football Tim Steidten has opened up on the current situations of Edson Alvarez and Lucas Paqueta.

Edson Alvarez picked up an injury whilst playing for Mexico 10 days ago whilst Lucas Paqueta is currently playing a key role for Brazil at the Copa America, and Tim Steidten has provided updates on the West Ham duo.

Steidten addressed the media yesterday, and actually took a back-handed dig at former Hammers boss David Moyes when praising Julen Lopetegui.

Confidence is high that the 45-year-old German working in tandem with the Spaniard will bring great success to West Ham next season and beyond.

However, in order to achieve that, we need Alvarez and Paqueta back to their best, both physically and mentally.

The Mexico international’s injury is obviously a very big blow for the Hammers, whilst the ongoing betting investigation into Paqueta is a major concern.

That said, it’s clearly not impacting his performances for Brazil, after his stunning display during their 4-0 win over Paraguay the other night.

However, the whole situation must be unsettling for him when he’s not playing, and Alvarez must be concerned about his hamstring injury as well.

Now Steidten has opened up on the respective situations of both players…

The German is clearly playing a major role for the Hammers this summer, and not just when it comes to potential incomings and outgoings.

Steidten is leaving no stone unturned when it comes to trying to get the best out of the current squad at the London Stadium.

He certainly seems to be going above and beyond what is expected of him in his current role.

Steidten is well known for forging close personal relationships with the players.

The former Bayer Leverkusen transfer guru spoke to the club’s official website yesterday about Alvarez and Paqueta.

The German said, “I’ve spoken to Edson Álvarez, who has suffered an injury while away with Mexico. Our medical team are in contact with the Mexico staff, and he’s doing the first part of his rehab with them before he comes back to England. The most important thing at the moment is that communication, and making sure everyone’s aligned.”

Then Steidten switched his attention to Paqueta, “I’ve spoken to Lucas Paquetá as well, and I actually visited him when I was over in Brazil watching some games. We’re looking forward to having him back with us, because he’s a really important member of our team and the West Ham family.”

That’s so good to hear. Steidten clearly takes responsibility for looking after the West Ham players’ welfare.

Aside from signing new players, you really cant ask for more than that from a director of football can you.

I just feel like the club is being run far more professionally now from top to bottom, since Moyes was moved on.

And Tim Stiedten is playing a key role in West Ham acting like a more professional outfit.

Let’s just hope that Alvarez’s injury isn’t too serious and Paqueta is cleared of all the charges levelled against him.
