Ross McCormack and Sam Byram react as Leeds United finally make first summer signing

Joe Rodon has completed a permanent move to Leeds United from Tottenham Hotspur in a deal that sees Archie Gray move to Spurs, and both Sam Byram and Ross McCormack have reacted.

The 26-year-old returns to Elland Road after starring for Daniel Farke’s side last season in which Leeds came within a whisker of securing an instant return to the Premier League, only to fall at the final hurdle.

Rodon clocked up 50 appearances in all competitions for The Whites and was one of the first names on the team sheet, despite having to contend with a constant change in centre-back partner throughout.

It began with Liam Cooper, before Pascal Struijk came into the side. Then, the Dutchman’s injury midway through the season saw Ethan Ampadu drop into the middle of defence, and the duo worked superbly.

Sam Byram delighted with permanent Rodon return at Leeds

Defeat in the play-off final at Wembley plunged a permanent move for Rodon into doubt. It was unclear if The Whites could afford to spend the £10m fee he has cost the club, with Premier League clubs lurking.

All three newly-promoted teams wanted to sign Rodon while Brentford tried to get the Welshman to move across London. But, a deal for Gray allowed Leeds to do a deal that saw Rodon go the other way.

Indeed, Leeds have spent a quarter of what Tottenham paid the club for Gray to get Rodon. A profit of £30m, plus Rodon represents good business and Byram replied to Leeds’ Rodon post on Instagram.

Ross McCormack reacts to Rodon deal with two-word comment

Byram, who has also signed a deal to remain at Elland Road next season, was not the only one to react to the news that Rodon had signed on at Leeds permanently. Connor Roberts posted a two-word message.

As did former Leeds captain Ross McCormack, who embodied the Leeds fanbase following the new that Rodon would be a Leeds player at least until the summer of 2028. He commented on another Leeds post.
