Angelique Kerber and Laura Siegemund will play doubles together for Germany at the upcoming Paris Olympics tournament at Roland Garros where Siegemund won the French Open mixed doubles title last month.

The pair share six grand slam titles between them heading into the July 27-August 4 tennis event at the Games.

Former world number Kerber won singles titles at the 2016 Australian and US Open, plus Wimbledon in 2018. She also won Olympic silver in 2016.

Siegemund triumphed in the women's doubles at the 2020 US Open with Vera Zvonareva, and in the mixed doubles at the 2016 US Open with Mate Pavic and the 2024 French Open with Édouard Roger-Vasselin.

"I talked on the phone with Angie and she said she would like to play with me. She wants to play doubles if she has a chance to medal and ca really achieve something. And this was the best option for me," Siegemund said on Tuesday at Wimbledon.

Kerber said: "I think it will be very interesting to play doubles with Laura. We have never played together. But I am ready and let's what happens."

Siegemund said she also wants to play mixed at the Olympics, preferably with the singles Tokyo 2020 gold medallist Alexander Zverev who however is yet to decide whether he will play doubles or mixed doubles while saying mixed with Kerber was not an option.

Zverev and Siegemund played mixed in Germany's run to the United Cup title in January, and Siegemund said that "I really hope that he decides in favour of the mixed because I am really keen to play with him."

Siegemund added she has told the German federation she would be upset if she was not allowed to play mixed doubles, with Tim Pütz the other option.

"I was only told that I was very likely to play the mixed from the women's side. I would have liked to have had 100% confirmation by now," she said.

"I think I deserve it with my performances, at the United Cup and lately in Paris."
