The Apple Pie Maker was released in 1992 and was a plastic contraption that let you make a fake McDonald’s Apple Pie.

You get a small slice of bread and put it through different stations, flattening, rolling and imprinting it to look like the real McDonald’s dessert.

First, you cut the bread into a square using a purple cutter which adds a fold line and also imprints three air holes onto the top.

Then, you roll the bread out, place it into a holder and add some of your own apple sauce filling before folding the top half down.

After that, you push down a piece of yellow plastic which trims the edges and crimps them shut so the filling doesn’t fall out.

The set even comes with a cinnamon shaker and tiny cardboard McDonald’s boxes to put the Apple Pies in once they are made.

McDonald’s also released a French Fry Maker, Grill Machine and Soda Machine, but the Apple Pie Maker was most popular.

History of the McDonald’s Apple Pie

The Apple Pie was the first dessert that was ever added to the McDonald’s menu, all the way back in 1968, the same year they introduced the Big Mac.

It was produced at a restaurant in Knoxville, Tennessee by a franchisee called Litton Cochran, and was originally deep-fried. However, in 1992, McDonald’s changed them into baked Apple Pies to appeal to new customer preferences.

They remain baked today and feature 100% American-grown apples inside a lattice crust baked to perfection, topped with sprinkled sugar.

“Crispy on the outside, deliciously hot and sweet on the inside, our Apple Pie is a McDonald’s classic,” McDonald’s says.

The pies feature a combination of six different varieties of Apple: Fuji, Golden Delicious, Jonagold, Rome, Gala, and Ida Red.

It wasn’t until 2011 that the fast food chain started expanding its pies with new fillings like cherry, peach, strawberry and pumpkin. 2012 then saw the release of the Signature pies, including Strawberry and Crème and S’mores.

The Holiday Pie is a firm favorite, with creamy, smooth custard nestled in a flaky, buttery crust glazed with sugar and topped with rainbow sprinkles.

However, nothing beats classic Apple!
