Lithuania reports airspace violation by Russian aircraft

Lithuania on Tuesday reported a violation of its airspace by a Russian aircraft.

The Russian airline Pobeda's unspecified aircraft entered Lithuanian airspace without authorization on the evening of June 30 and stayed there for about a minute, the Foreign Ministry in Vilnius announced.

The ministry stated that representatives from the Russian embassy were summoned and handed a note, which asked for an explanation and necessary measures to prevent future incidents.

According to the information provided, the aircraft violated the airspace over the Baltic Sea while en route from Moscow to the Russian exclave of Kaliningrad, which borders Lithuania.

The European Union has closed its airspace to Russian aircraft in response to Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine.
