'I know': Roger Hannah does not rule out Celtic making a move for goalkeeper who's gone out of Euro 2024

Celtic’s hunt for a new goalkeeper has a sort of Eddie Howe feel about it, doesn’t it?

We all remember that summer right after Neil Lennon left Celtic and the club were linked to the now Newcastle United boss for weeks until the deal fell through and Ange Postecoglou was hired.

This is what this summer feels like as the club is continually linked with a multitude of names and as the days drag on, it seems Celtic are no closer to getting a replacement in for Joe Hart.

Peter Vindahl Jensen seems to be the ‘number one’ goalkeeper on Celtic’s wishlist and negotiations are ongoing, but Roger Hannah believes that he is not the only one they are looking at.

Celtic ‘looking at two or three others’

Hannah was speaking about the possibility of Celtic signing Dominik Livakovic when he admitted he knew that the club were looking at other options and hinted at the kind of goalkeeper Brendan Rodgers wants.

Hannah said [Superscoreboard], “The goalkeeper. I mean, he was one (Livakovic) Celtic had a historical interest in him.

“I go back to last summer before he went and signed for Fenerbahce. He cost a lot of money and he’s on a lot of money.

“Now, that doesn’t prevent anything happening from a Celtic point of view, but I think they’ve got a new manager, Jose Mourinho, in there.

“Livakovic was away at the Euros and I would imagine this is one that would have to settle down at his end and he makes a decision and Mourinho makes a decision on what happens.

“I know Celtic are looking at two or three others and when they went for Joe Hart, it was a goalie of vast experience.

“I think he was 34 or something when he came into the football club and did terrifically well. But I think now Celtic will look at a different age profile for the player.

“I think the guy coming in, whoever he is, will be mid to late 20s, will be a good guy, but also a good guy who will have a residual sell-on value at the end of his contract that Joe Hart didn’t have.

“And listen, I couldn’t rule out Livakovic but I tend to think the whole deal might be a little rich for Celtic, but I’ve made that mistake in the past.”

With just over two weeks until Celtic embark on their summer tour of the USA, the fans will be hoping to see a new number-one between the sticks.

Whether it’s Livakovic, Jensen or even Martin Dubravka, Rodgers must get this one right as the Celtic fans have had first-hand experience of what happens when the wrong choice of goalkeeper is made.
