Max Wober could soon be about to learn whether he will be playing for Leeds next season - opinion

Max Wober and Rasmus Kristensen now appear to be the only two returning loanees whose Leeds United futures still aren’t clarified.

At the beginning of last month, Brenden Aaronson became the first to make a decision by confirming he wants to give it a second go at Leeds after talks with Daniel Farke.

Jack Harrison and Marc Roca did not take such stances, though, returning to the clubs they were on loan at last season. The latter has moved on a permanent deal.

Despite not having an active loan clause, Diego Llorente’s absence from day one of pre-season at Thorp Arch yesterday is a major hint that he will not be coming back.

Llorente is reportedly close to a permanent switch to Real Betis where he will be reuniting with former Leeds teammate Roca.

Wober now set for quick resolution on Leeds future

Wober spent last season on loan at Borussia Monchengladbach and despite their desire to sign him again, are currently unable to meet the asking price.

While other Bundesliga interest is expected, nothing concrete has arrived yet, leaving his future very much up in the air as the new season closes in.

Wober has been away with Austria at Euro 2024 for a number of weeks now and instructed his agent not to discuss anything regarding his future until his time at the tournament was done.

And despite receiving plenty of plaudits for topping a group with France and Netherlands, Austria are now out after a surprise 2-1 defeat to Turkey in the last-16 on Tuesday night.

The 26-year-old is now likely to go on holiday for some time to rest and recover, though he will now certainly have to keep his eyes and ears open on any developments with his future.

Wober claimed a couple of weeks ago that Leeds had told him they would hold talks over his future when he was officially knocked out and so they could be held imminently.

Wober shares exactly what Leeds have told him so far

As mentioned, Leeds handed Wober the space he needed to be fully focused on representing Austria at the Euros.

It would be fair to say he had an up and down tournament and so here is exactly what Wober said in his most recent update on his future.

“There is currently total radio silence on both sides. I’ve heard from Leeds that there will be talks once the European Championships are over,” he revealed. “They want me to concentrate on Austria for now.

“In Gladbach I said goodbye to everyone and thanked them for the cool year. So far, I haven’t heard anything else. My ideal scenario would be that I become European champion with Austria – and then take a nice two or three week vacation.”
