24 injured outside nightclub in Split after glass wall shatters

Twenty-four young people were injured outside a popular nightclub in the Croatian Adriatic resort of Split late Tuesday when a glass façade at the entrance to the club shattered.

The injured, most of whom were holidaymakers from Germany and Sweden, had been waiting outside the club to get in. They suffered cuts from the flying shards of glass, the local newspaper Slobodna Dalmacija reported online on Wednesday, citing a hospital in Split.

A young man aged 20 and a girl aged 16 remained in hospital and their condition was described as stable. The other injured people returned home after receiving first aid.

According to initial investigations, the glass façade probably broke due to pressure from the large number of people.

Split is the largest city in the Croatian coastal region of Dalmatia. Millions of people go on holiday there in the summer.
