A creepy video, a skull emoji and the words "OH SH*T!!!" is how Eminem has decided to update fans about the timing of his new album.

"The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce)" is set for a July 12 release, and the announcement has been spreading around social media with a video clip that could be straight out of a horror film.

A woman gives birth to a baby in hospital while a storm rages outside. After the newborn appears to almost die, it opens a black pair of eyes, grins devilishly and sticks out a forked tongue while horns grow from its forehead, sending the mother into terrified screams.

The singer, whose lyrics have long been accused of being misogynist, had already announced the new album at the end of April, but without giving a specific date.

The post was accompanied by a video in the style of a true-crime programme reporting on the death of Slim Shady, the 51-year-old musician's fictional alter ego in songs.

Eminem released the single "Houdini" at the end of May. The star rapper, who grew up in Detroit and whose real name is Marshall Bruce Mathers III, last released an album in 2020 - "Music To Be Murdered By". "The Death of Slim Shady" is his 12th studio album.
