When Matheus heard': Hobbs shares amusing thing Cunha did when he learned Wolves were signing Pedro Lima

Matt Hobbs has revealed what Matheus Cunha did upon finding out Wolves had won the race for Pedro Lima.

Lima became Wolves’ fourth addition of the summer, following Jorgen Strand Larsen, Rodrigo Gomes and Tommy Doyle to Molineux.

Lima had been on course to join Chelsea.

But Wolves hijacked the move, having sold a better project to the player.

Matheus Cunha had expressed his disappointment a few weeks ago when he discovered Lima had been set to join Chelsea.

He had known of Wolves’ interest and had wanted the youngster to join him at Molineux. Eventually, Wolves did get their man, much to the delight of Cunha – and Matt Hobbs has now shared what Cunha did when he found out about the hijacking.

Wolves put out an amusing announcement video for Lima that alluded to the role Cunha had played in bringing the youngster to Molineux.

Wolves had ‘Cunha’ play the club’s sporting director, and poked fun at the fact that Chelsea had been poised to sign the teenager.

Wolves’ actual sporting director Matt Hobbs has been speaking about the role Cunha played in helping bring Lima to the club. And it is clear the Brazilian took great pride in helping to convince his compatriot.

Hobbs said: “When Matheus heard it had been announced he was very quick to send me a voice note congratulating himself on his work on getting Pedro here! But that’s all part of it.

“When we talked about what we do differently, from Ben flying out and Gabriel, our Brazilian scout, being really important in that, through to our players reaching out, it just shows what a family we are.

“They’re not just reaching out to say how great it is here, but they’re showing they care. That’s Wolves. That’s who we are. We saw that on the pitch a lot last year and that’s the culture we’re trying to create around Compton.”

Wolves could end up being very thankful to agent Cunha

So clearly, Cunha played a very significant role in helping the club land a top young talent in Lima.

Potentially, the club will have a lot to thank the attacker for in the years to come when Lima has spent a bit of time at the club and got used to English football.

By many accounts, he’s someone with very big potential and hopefully he can develop in the way Wanderers expect.

Cunha will no doubt help him to settle as quickly as possible, as will the other players – especially his fellow Portuguese speakers.

Wolves really did strike gold with the signing of Cunha. A lot of money was paid for him and there were som doubts at first. But he showed last season what a top, unique player he is and now, he’s helping Wolves land other players.
