'Big club': £70m player suggests he's ready to move after claims Arsenal could sign him this summer

A player Arsenal have been linked with has now suggested he would happily leave his current club for the Gunners this summer.

Mikel Arteta and Edu are yet to make a signing this summer as the pair deliberate over what exactly is needed to bridge the gap on Manchester City next season.

Now – however – Arsenal have received a boost after one target spoke to the media…

Murillo suggests he would happily leave Nottingham Forest for Arsenal

A story from the Daily Mail recently claimed that Arsenal are keen to sign Nottingham Forest No.40 Murillo after his outstanding debut campaign in English football.

The Brazilian – who almost scored Puskas contenders from inside his own half against both Luton and Tottenham – was named Player of the Season at the City Ground for his impressive efforts.

Now, Murillo has been speaking to Benjamin Back for Benja Me Mucho, where he interestingly revealed that he planned to use Nottingham Forest as a stepping stone for one season before joining a “big club” this summer.

The South American said: “I had the dream of playing in the Premier League and I had that thought. I said: “I’ll go to Nottingham Forest, have a good year and then I’ll go to a big club”.

Murillo made 32 Premier League appearances last season as Nottingham Forest finished 17th – providing two assists while picking up five yellow cards.

Mikel Arteta and Edu might have already moved on

Murillo may have been better served revealing these comments earlier in the summer transfer window, as it appears Arsenal are closing in on a different central defender.

Respected Italian journalist Tancredi Palmer has now revealed that Arsenal are close to signing Bologna No.33 Riccardo Calafiori – who shone for Italy at Euro 2024 this summer.

The Italy international would arrive as competition for Gabriel Magalhaes and William Saliba, so we highly doubt Arteta would want to sign Murillo – who Nottingham Forest value at £70m – as well.

Be sure to keep an eye on developments at Arsenal, as the Gunners could soon announce Calafiori’s arrival.
