Pep Guardiola is currently enjoying a well-deserved break after another successful season with Manchester City.
After seeing his side win a historic Treble, the Blues followed that up last season by winning the UEFA SuperCup, FIFA Club World Cup and a fourth Premier League trophy in a row.
With the 2024 European Championship and Copa America underway, while numerous City players are in action for their countries, Guardiola still has some time to enjoy before preparations for next season begin.
Despite that, one former Manchester United coach has shared his thoughts on how the City manager, who Alan Shearer said was the best coach in the league last season, would fare if he were to be the one in charge of England rather than Gareth Southgate.

Rene Meulensteen claims England would be more exciting with Pep Guardiola in charge
Appearing in a recent video shared on the talkSPORT YouTube channel, Rene Meulensteen had this to say on the matter.
He said: “I think, and it’s just my opinion, because I am a Pep Guardiola fan, as a manager and as a coach. I honestly do think if he would’ve worked with this material, you would have seen a completely different England side, I really do.
“It’s not all on the manager because the players need to take responsibility, but the manager is the navigation system.
“He’s the one that creates the culture, he’s the one that comes up with a clear vision, this is how I want to play and this is your job, defensively, in transition and offensively when we have the ball, and Pep Guardiola is that.
“I think there is with these players, they’re relying too much on their own individual quality. They can still decide games like that and smaller teams that haven’t got that quality fall to the wayside.
“I think you would’ve seen a far more constructive way with the ball breaking lines quicker, overloading on a certain side, quick play interplay with switches of play, individual skills together, chances etc.
“It would have been a thrust going forward far more and I think England has got all the qualities to do that.”
England need Guardiola’s attacking style
With 11 nations racking up more shots at goal and key passes than England at this stage of the tournament ahead of the quarter-final fixtures, it’s safe to say that the Three Lions have not been particularly strong when it comes to creating chances and having attempts at goal.
On the flip side, Guardiola’s City ended their previous Premier League campaign with more shots on target (264) and goal-creating actions (169) than any other side in the division, this makes it understandable why Meulensteen thinks England would be much more dynamic if they had the Spaniard in charge.
