'Here we go': Romano says 'sensational' midfielder linked with Arsenal now set for £47m move to CL rivals

Arsenal have a busy summer on the transfer front as Mikel Arteta and Edu look to apply the finishing touches to their squad.

The Gunners have made great progress in the past few years and took the Premier League title battle to the final day of the 2023/24 season.

However, Arsenal just fell short for the second year in a row, so they’ll be eager to strengthen their ranks to ensure they can go all the way next term.

Plenty of top players have been linked with the Gunners in recent months, including one of the Premier League’s best defensive midfielders.

However, it looks as though Arsenal are now set to miss out on his signature as a move to Bayern Munich apparently looms.

Arsenal-linked Joao Palhinha now set for Bayern Munich

The player in question is Fulham’s Joao Palhinha. Earlier this year, Dean Jones told GiveMeSport that the Portugal international was on Arsenal’s radar.

However, the Gunners appear to have cooled their interest in Palhinha as Bayern took centre stage in talks for the player.

Now, Fabrizio Romano has declared “here we go” on Palhinha to the Champions League side, who are set to pay around £47million in total.

The 29-year-old will sign a contract that runs until the summer of 2028 after a medical. He has been pushing for weeks for the deal to happen, added Romano.

Arsenal likely to be looking for players with more resale value

There is no doubt that Palhinha is a “sensational” midfielder and has proven himself in the Premier League.

However, the fact he turns 29 in July, plus his price tag, may well have made Arsenal think twice about swooping in.

Arsenal used to have a pretty bad track record when it came to signing players in their late primes or even towards the tail end of their careers, who then struggled to make an impact and went on to leave for little to nothing.

Today’s Gunners are a million miles away from how they were back then, and they won’t want to risk making those same mistakes again.
