Howie Long lists what the Chiefs need to look out for to win the three-peat and praises the coaching staff

A lot is said about the talent of NFL players, but not enough is said about the people who are behind them and help them survive the madness that is playing in the NFL.

A good coaching staff wins games and even championships.

In fact, in most cases a good rapport between coaches and players on and off the field is practically a guarantee of success.

The Kansas City Chiefs have the whole package. There’s a lot of brilliant minds working together.

Teamwork even in difficult times

2023 was far from an exceptional year in terms of performance on the pitch.

The 18 long weeks leading up to the playoffs weren’t easy, although the overall campaign was positive.

KC went through some rough patches during the regular season: ball drops, injuries and a somewhat lost mentality in some games.

Specifically, the last game before the playoffs was a catastrophe and the reason why many players in the Chiefs’ squad say he was responsible for changing their mindset for what lay ahead.

Losing to the Las Vegas Raiders on Christmas Day was the most unexpected outcome.

And yet, the work behind the scenes was very well done and the coaches managed to hold the line as best they could until the postseason.

NFL analyst praises Chiefs’ coaching staff network

Howie Long was one of the NFL’s most dominant players during his 13-season career with the Los Angeles Raiders.

He was selected to the Pro Bowl eight times and named to the First-team All-Pro three times. In addition, the defensive end was a crucial member of the team that won Super Bowl XVIII in 1984.

Today Long is also known as a sports analyst. He is one of the most recognised broadcasters on American television, having worked as an analyst on the “Fox NFL Sunday” programme since 1994.

In an appearance on the Green Light With Chris Long podcast, the expert discussed with his son the possibility of KC winning a third Super Bowl in a row.

“What’s unique about three is nobody has ever done it, and I think when you add that to the equation for guys that are aware, you know this is historic stuff… Now you gotta be healthy, you gotta stay smart.” said.

He then took the opportunity to praise the franchise’s entire coaching staff for the excellent job they did in 2023.

“Last year, we saw them out of the gate, and they looked lost. Dropped balls, the offense was erratic, the defense was actually carrying them, and then they kind of figured it out. I can’t really emphasize how great Andy Reid is as a coach, and you know your guys on defense, coach Spags (Spagnuolo), is proved to be one of the greatest big game defensive coordinators in NFL history.”
