Micah Richards and Gary Lineker say £17m player Liverpool want to sign is a ‘superstar’

Liverpool have been linked with making moves for a number of players who have lit up Euro 2024.

With the tournament still ongoing, the Reds are still yet to commit to any transfers at this point of the summer window.

However, that does not mean Liverpool have not been looking. As Arne Slot settles into life at the AXA Training Centre, the Reds recruitment team will have their eye on matters in Germany.

Liverpool are far too methodical to sign players on the back of a good tournament with their country. But impressive performances on the big stage can no doubt help to facilitate a move to Anfield.

Pundits rave about ‘superstar’ Arda Guler

Liverpool are not in desperate need of transfers this summer. The Reds’ squad is fairly well set up to go again under Slot next season.

Nevertheless, there are certain areas that look like they need small upgrades. Liverpool could turn to some Euro 2024 talents to sort that out.

First of all, a new centre-back is needed. Although he now looks more likely to go to Arsenal or Chelsea, Riccardo Calafiori has been mooted as a target.

For a new wide forward player, Liverpool should look no further than Spain’s Nico Williams, who has left Daniel Sturridge stunned by the skills he’s shown.

As well as what Liverpool may need though, there’s also the matter of opportunism in the market; signing a player simply because he looks amazing.

That’s reportedly what Liverpool have attempted to do with Real Madrid and Turkey star Arda Guler. After limited minutes at Real last season, the Reds have reportedly asked Madrid about signing Guler.

Unsurprisingly, the European champions are not in the selling mood, though. And after Guler lit up the Euros with another top display against Austria on Tuesday, Gary Lineker and Micah Richards have been singing his praises on The Rest Is Football podcast.

“We can’t move on without talking about Real Madrid’s Guler,” says Ricahrd. “Oh my. 19 years of age, he’s a superstar. And not just because he scored that worldie in the group stages where he bent it from 30 yards, it’s the way he manipulates the ball and the way he plays the right pass at the right time. He is going to be the next big thing, I think.”

“Incredible talent,” Lineker agreed. “He’s at Real Madrid for a reason. Turkey, I have really enjoyed watching them play and their fans.”

Could Liverpool sign Arda Guler?

Guler really has been impressive at the Euros. With one goal and one assist, the 19-year-old has affected the score-line, too.

It comes on the back of an injury-hit first year at Madrid, where Guler made just 12 appearances. Six goals scored in that time show what a talent he is.

In terms of why Liverpool could sign him, Carlo Ancelotti is about to get a whole heap of attacking talent with Kylian Mbappe and Endrick walking into the club this summer.

With two new big arrivals, something will have to give. As a young player who has not fully made his mark, Guler could be the one sacrificed.

Liverpool were reportedly in for Guler last year before he made the £17m move to Madrid.

It would be a real surprise to see Real let the youngster go after just one season, but as a left-footed forward, you can see that there would be opportunities for him at Anfield.

If nothing else, a joyful player to watch.
