'One of the rumours': Graham Smyth shares whether Harry Gray will now follow Archie in leaving Leeds

Despite Archie’s move to Tottenham Hotspur, the Gray family name still lives on at Leeds United.

Archie Gray’s Great Uncle Eddie, Grandfather Frank, and Father Andy all played for the club during their careers, while his younger brother Harry could be the next cab off the rank.

Both Frank and particularly Eddie remain legendary figures at Elland Road. The latter was a one-club man during his playing days, and twice went onto manage Leeds in the 1980s and early 2000s. He is now in an ambassadorial role, and regularly attends matches home and away.

Eddie is not one to hide the belief in his two Great Nephews Archie and Harry, and after the former’s exit on Tuesday, all eyes will now be on whether the latter can follow his brother into the first team.

Archie himself has even claimed that Harry is actually a better talent than he is, which is almost impossible to imagine considering his ability.

Smyth responds to rumours of Harry Gray exit

Reports of Gray’s exit from Leeds over the weekend caused a complete meltdown on social media.

There were some suggestions Gray was forced out due to Leeds’ need to sell, which then led to rumours of Eddie looking to distance himself from the club, and Harry potentially following him out of the exit door.

And while Gray’s camp were reportedly frustrated with the way Leeds handled the situation, Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Graham Smyth has moved to put those rumours to bed.

Speaking on the latest episode of the Inside Elland Road Podcast, Smyth says there has been ‘no suggestion’ Harry will be leaving, with the plan still for him to stay at Leeds and one day hopefully breakthrough like his brother.

He said: “There’s absolutely no suggestion, and that was one of the rumours that was set running, that he was off. There’s no suggestion the plan is any different because of what happened with Archie.

“The plan is for him to stay and the Gray’s have always been very big where you are going to play, and which club will give you the opportunity. He’s better placed at Leeds than going to Manchester City and being one of a cast.”

What Patrick Bamford claimed Archie always says about brother Harry

As mentioned previously, Archie has actually claimed in the past that Harry is a better player than him, despite being three years younger.

Harry is more of an attacking player than Archie and has been knocking in goals for fun across various age groups at youth level.

Speaking back in March, Patrick Bamford claimed that Archie is always going on about how much of a better talent Harry is than himself.

He said: “Archie, the good thing about him as well is he’s so humble and doesn’t really, he believes in his ability, but I don’t think he knows how good he is. He has a younger brother who’s in the academy, I think he’s only like 14 [15], but he’s always like, ‘yeah, he’s better than me’. He must be unbelievable then.”
