'I'm proud'... Teenage striker confirms he has signed for Manchester United

Another promising youngster has confirmed he has signed for the Manchester United academy.

Over the previous few weeks, young Reading striker Camron Mpofu was linked with a move to Manchester United. The interest was first report via The Mail in May.

Now Mpofu’s move to Manchester United has been confirmed by the player himself.

Mpofu posted to Instagram holding the Manchester United shirt with his name and number nine on the back.

Camron Mpofu confirms move

Camron Mpofu has confirmed his switch to Manchester United. The 15-year-old will join the club’s academy.

He wrote: “I’m proud to officially announce my signing for @manchesterunited.

“I’d like to thank everyone who has helped me on this journey so far, especially my family, the coaches and staff @readingfc The hard work continues.”

Mpofu is a youth international striker who has represented England – but recently made the switch to play for Scotland.

He will go into Manchester United’s under-16s side, and positive progress might be rewarded with minutes at under-18s level next season too.

United always like to push elite talents, with Amir Ibragimov and Finley McAllister making their under-18s debut when just 14.

Manchester United snapping up youth talent

Camron Mpofu is the latest recruit to Manchester United’s academy. He follows Silva Mexes from Ipswich Town, and James Overy from Newton Abbot Spurs.

Another player to make the move is Dante Plunkett, who has joined from Aston Villa.

Plunkett was named as one of 10 youth players handed scholarship deals at Manchester United earlier this week, a list which also includes Ibragimov.

Mpofu will get to work on trying to impress at Carrington, knowing the next step of his journey is only just getting started, and he can’t ease up now.

This is a club with a history of promoting top talent, with 250 academy graduates brought into the first team. One day in the future, Mpofu will aim to join that illustrious list.
