Baseball: Ohtani to start 4th straight All-Star Game, 1st for NL

Shohei Ohtani will start his fourth straight Major League Baseball All-Star Game and first as a member of the Los Angeles Dodgers after being announced Wednesday as the winner of the fan vote for the National League's designated hitter.

The two-time American League MVP with the Los Angeles Angels will become the first player to start the Midsummer Classic four times in a row at DH when he debuts for the NL at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, on July 16.

Ohtani beat out Philadelphia's Kyle Schwarber with 63 percent of the head-to-head vote in the second phase of the ballot for the NL's starting DH.

Ohtani said he will skip this year's Home Run Derby, held the day before the All-Star Game, as he continues to rehabilitate from right elbow surgery that is expected to keep him off the mound until the 2025 season.

Ohtani and New York Yankees slugger Aaron Judge are the only All-Star starters to repeat from last year via the fan vote. They are tied for the longest active streak in MLB with four consecutive selections.
