'I'd say' - Gary Neville names two Man Utd legends who were 'teacher's pets' under Sir Alex Ferguson, Roy Keane called him out

Roy Keane immediately called out Gary Neville after his fellow Sky Sports pundit named two Manchester United legends as ‘teacher’s pets’ under Sir Alex Ferguson.

Sir Alex Ferguson is widely considered one of the best managers of all time after his legendary career with Manchester United in England and with Aberdeen in Scotland.

The 82-year-old Scotsman enjoyed incredible success in his illustrious managerial career, including lifting 13 Premier League titles and an iconic treble with United.

Ferguson bowed of management in 2013 after he led United to their last Premier League title at the end of the 2012-13 season.

The United legend was well known for taking players to task with his ‘hairdryer treatment,’ although some managed to avoid a verbal reprimand altogether.

Gary Neville spent his entire playing career under Ferguson at Old Trafford and was even promoted to the captaincy after Roy Keane was axed from the Red Devils.

Keane, unlike Neville, saw his relationship with former Aberdeen manager Ferguson fracture ahead of his departure from Old Trafford in 2005.

The 52-year-old Irishman has no love lost for Ferguson since his time at United, with Keane believing that he was unfairly treated by the iconic Scot.

Keane takes shot at Man Utd legend Neville

Speaking on the Stick to Football show, Gary Neville wasted no time in naming one Manchester United legend as a ‘teacher’s pet’ under Sir Alex Ferguson.

Responding to a fan-submitted question, the 49-year-old former United right-back claimed that fellow club legend Paul Scholes was a teacher’s pet in the squad.

However, Roy Keane immediately called out Neville by saying that he was a teacher’s pet before the ex-United defender continued to talk about Paul Scholes.

“Who’s the biggest teacher’s pet in the squad? I’m definitely saying Paul Scholes for Sir Alex,” Neville said.

Reacting to Neville’s pick, Keane hit back: “You! You!”

Neville continued: “Oh my God, Scholsey was his [teacher’s pet]. Scholsey could never put a foot wrong. It was not me.”

Speaking on Scholes, Keane added: “Remember Scholsey refused to play at Arsenal in the League Cup? He got away with it.”

Neville names second teacher’s pet at Man Utd

Arsenal legend Ian Wright admitted that he was surprised that Neville did not single out United legend Eric Cantona as a potential teacher’s pet under Ferguson.

A larger-than-life figure at Old Trafford, Eric Cantona had a sensational impact at United during the 1990s and was a largely influential figure in the dressing room.

Former England striker Gary Lineker previously claimed that Ferguson would treat Cantona differently during the Frenchman’s prolific spell at the Red Devils.

Ferguson has held both Paul Scholes and Cantona in high regard and named the two United legends among the four world-class players he managed in his career.

Neville responded to Ian Wright by admitting that Cantona would be up there alongside Scholes as a teacher’s pet at United.

“Eric was as well. Eric or Scholsey, I’d say,” he said.

Keane turned to fellow pundit Wright and doubled down on his stance that Neville was a teacher’s pet for Aberdeen and United legend Ferguson.

“Nev, 100 per cent,” he simply added.
