'Difficult times': Fabio Carvalho shares how he really feels about Jurgen Klopp ahead of Liverpool return

There is not expected to be too much change to the Liverpool squad after Jurgen Klopp’s exit as manager.

Klopp has left a brilliant basis for Arne Slot to work from, with only some minor tweaking necessary for the new boss.

Although there will inevitably be a clamour for new signings anyway, it should also not be forgotten that Liverpool have some excellent players returning from loan spells.

Sepp van den Berg is one who has been making noise recently, with the Dutchman expected to be given a chance by Slot.

Another in the news has been Tyler Morton, who has been in ‘concrete talks’ with RB Leipzig. Finally, there’s Fabio Carvalho who is now looking to get his Anfield career back on track.

Fabio Carvalho opens up on Jurgen Klopp feelings

Carvalho had looked like an excellent signing for Liverpool back in 2022. The youngster was picked up on the cheap from Fulham and had been expected to have an impact.

However, with Liverpool in the midst of a terrible season, Carvalho could not find his place. The 21-year-old was shipped out on-loan last summer and even admitted to having no idea what he was doing in Klopp’s system.

Initially, things did not go well for Carvalho after joining RB Leipzig. But having cut short his time in Germany and joined Championship side Hull City, Carvalho then flourished.

The hope will be that with a new head coach now installed at Liverpool, the Portugal U21 international can start anew with the Reds.

Speaking to Rising Ballers though, Carvalho has suggested that he is still sorry to see Klopp go and has looked back fondly on his time working with the legendary German.

“Incredible, on a day to day basis, he just wants to help you,” says Fabio, when asked how he found working with Klopp.

“We went through difficult times when I was there in my first season and he was always helping, always trying to get the best out of players, especially young players,” he adds.

“We’ve seen this season, I’ve been on loan but he’s given a lot of chances to the young players. Conor Bradley’s come in, Jarell [Quansah], and they’ve taken their chances and that’s what it’s all about.

“No matter what team you go to there’s always going to be big names but if the young players are performing then you should give them a chance and that’s what he’s done.

“That’s what he’s implementing within the club, that’s what the club’s about and that’s where you want to be.”

What next for Fabio Carvalho at Liverpool?

The feeling has always been that despite his poor first season, Liverpool still see Carvalho as part of their long-term future.

With Slot now replacing Klopp though, there may be a shift in that thinking. Although the change in manager does represent a chance for Carvalho, he still has to take it.

The delayed return of much of the Liverpool squad to training this summer should help him in that regard.

Carvalho will have an early chance to impress Slot at the AXA Training Centre as more senior players take an extended break.

If he can do that, then the Dutch coach may well carve out a spot for him in the team. If not, then Carvalho may be out of chances.
