'There is interest': Fabrizio Romano shares what's going on with Marc Guehi and Liverpool after transfer rumours

Liverpool continue to hold off in the transfer market despite being linked with a plethora of players.

The Reds could really do with adding a centre-back this summer but have so far declined to make any concrete moves.

Liverpool insiders have now played down talk that they’re looking to sign Bologna’s Riccardo Calafiori, while talks over a deal to buy Leny Yoro from Lille also appear to have cooled.

One more player linked with a potential move to Anfield has been Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi.

Guehi has been excellent as a starter for England at Euro 2024 leading to chatter that he could be on his way to Liverpool once the tournament is over.

Fabrizio Romano weighs in on Marc Guehi rumours

Guehi has been something of a surprise package for England this summer. Although he’s now an experienced Premier League player, the 23-year-old was not a regular for his nation.

Harry Maguire’s injury opened up a spot in the defence though, and it’s one that Guehi has filled with quality and ease.

Crystal Palace fans won’t need telling how good the former Chelsea man is, though, Guehi has been starring for them over the past three seasons.

Turning 24 this summer, the England defender now looks ready to make the step up to a top Premier League side.

With Liverpool supposedly in the mix to be that club, journalist Fabrizio Romano has offered an update on the chances of Guehi ending up at Anfield.

“In terms of names coming in for the defence, Marc Guehi has been linked with Liverpool (as well as other clubs) several times and he’s impressing with England at the Euros,” Romano tells The Daily Briefing.

“There is interest from many clubs, but nothing close or concrete yet as he wants to focus on the tournament now and not be distracted,” adds the transfer expert.

“For sure Guehi remains an interesting name for this summer with two years left on his contract at Crystal Palace.”

Liverpool’s Marc Guehi move starting to make sense

Heading into the summer, Guehi would perhaps not have been the number one choice for Liverpool fans to add to the defence.

However, having seen how the Crystal Palace centre-back has handled things with England, he now looks like a more appealing option.

There are also other things to consider here, too. It is always handy to have home grown players on the books and Liverpool don’t have loads of them.

With Guehi now entering the final two years of his contract at Selhurst Park, he may be get-able in terms of transfer fee, too.

Palace would still want a sizeable fee of course, and his displays in Germany will do Liverpool no favours in that regard.

But with Calafiori and Yoro off the table, Guehi certainly seems to remain in the running.
