‘Decisive week’: £38m Chelsea transfer target’s future will be decided in the next few days – journalist

Things are hotting up in the transfer market for Chelsea as they get closer to getting back in action.

New manager Enzo Maresca is preparing for his first campaign in charge of a Premier League side, and already has former employers Manchester City in his sights for game one.

There will be one eye on if any new signings are featuring in the season opener. Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall has joined the club after a stellar spell under the Italian last season.

There have been reports that they are interested in strengthening their defence before the campaign gets underway.

Reports have stated that they are keen on bringing in Italy international Riccardo Calafiori, who enjoyed a very strong Euro 2024 campaign.

Decisive week for Riccardo Calafiori transfer

Journalist Gianluca Di Marzio took to Twitter to state that the coming days would be decisive to see if he ends up playing his football at Stamford Bridge.

He said: “Arsenal remains favoured over Calafiori. In the last few hours. PSG, Bayer Leverkusen and Chelsea have also moved. This will be the decisive week to close.”

It has been claimed that a deal for the defender could cost a fee of £38m. However, from what many have seen of him recently there is plenty of evidence to suggest that he could be a strong addition to whoever brings him in.

Chelsea will no doubt acknowledge though that they have a player who plays a very similar role to him already at the club, who is actually playing some of the best football of his career right now.

Marc Cucurella has become an important starter for both club and country in recent months, and has done very little to suggest he should be dropped anytime soon.

Next season will also be a big one for Ben Chilwell, who missed the majority of the last campaign through injury.
