‘Relatively confident’: Journalist shares what’s likely to happen with Anthony Gordon now amid Liverpool links

Anthony Gordon has been making a number of headlines over the past week or so.

The England international isn’t just a major talking point at Euro 2024, he’s also making waves in the transfer window.

Indeed, Gordon has been strongly linked with a move to Liverpool in recent days, and his head has apparently been turned by the idea of moving to Anfield.

Gordon may be keen to join Liverpool, but according to Ben Jacobs, speaking on NUFC Matters, the winger is now likely to stay on Tyneside with Newcastle said to be relatively confident of keeping the player.

Anthony Gordon likely to stay

Jacobs spoke about Gordon and his future.

“In the end Newcastle didn’t want to lose Gordon and Liverpool didn’t like the cash opportunity with or without a player. Ultimately, Newcastle’s valuation of Gordon is something close to £100m, so it was always going to be difficult to get done,” Jacobs said.

“Newcastle are relatively confident now that he will stay at the club.”

Liverpool move could resurface

With Liverpool keen on Gordon and the player keen on the move don’t be surprised if this move resurfaces at some point.

It may not be this summer as Newcastle are confident they can keep Gordon at the moment, but, as we’ve seen in recent years, Liverpool don’t just give up on a target because a door is closed in one window.

Liverpool are long-term planners, and if they are indeed keen on Gordon, perhaps they could revisit this deal in six months in the January transfer window.

Make no mistake about it, this isn’t the last we’ve heard about Gordon and Liverpool, and it wouldn’t be a surprise at all if the Reds did go back in for the England international in a future transfer window.
