Report: West Ham could now submit bid to sign 'one of the best strikers' in Europe with 99 career goals

West Ham United could line up a bid for a prolific striker this summer, according to a recent report.

The Hammers are undergoing a squad rebuild under the stewardship of Julen Lopetegui who is expected to completely change the style of play to a possesion-based approach.

To do that, he’ll need certain profiles added to the squad, meaning a number of players are expected to depart.

That said, he’s also keen to add a striker to his ranks and could now submit a bid for a prolific one in the coming days.

West Ham could bid for Simon Banza

According to the Portuguese outlet O Jogo, West Ham United could soon submit a bid for Braga striker Simon Banza.

The report explains that Braga are close to signing a striker of their own as they perhaps prepare to sell the 27-year-old.

They add that interested clubs, of which West Ham are one, could now make improved bids for Banza – who is regarded as ‘one of the best strikers’ in Europe, per Zach Lowy.

The former Lens forward netted 23 goals last term for the Portuguese outfit, helping them to a fourth-placed finish.

That takes his career total up to 99.

Simon Banza statistics

Banza’s FBref statistics make for very impressive reading so it’s easy to see why The Hammers are considering him.

He ranks in the top one per cent for non-penalty goals per 90 compared to his positional peers across Europe, evincing how prolific he is.

Further, he sits in the top 15 per cent for assists, amplifying that he’s much more than just a goalscorer but in fact a creative forward, too.

If West Ham do land his signature this summer, he’d be a shrewd acquisition.
