Report: Arsenal could now sell player for a £7m loss after signing Riccardo Calafiori

Arsenal could now offload a player after agreeing to sign Bologna No.33 Riccardo Calafiori in a £42m deal.

The Gunners have seen a £42m bid accepted by Bologna for the Italy international – according to Tutto Mercato Web – and have also agreed personal terms with the central defender.

Now – as Riccardo Calafiori prepares to join – Arsenal could sell a defender for a £7m loss…

Arsenal could sell Jakub Kiwior after signing Riccardo Calafiori

A story from Tuttosport now claims that Arsenal could sell Jakub Kiwior for €15m (£13m) once Calafiori arrives at the Emirates Stadium.

Juventus – who were also keen to sign the Bologna No.33 – are admirers of the Poland international, who Thiago Motta worked with at Spezia before his move to north London.

The Italian is keen on a reunion with Kiwior after missing out on Calafiori, and Juventus believe a deal could be agreed.

If the Old Lady do manage to sign the Pole in a £13m deal, it would represent a £7m loss on the £20m Arsenal spent to sign him from Spezia in January 2023.

After rumours of Calafiori joining Arsenal first emerged, we wrote an opinion piece stating that Kiwior is surely at risk of being sold, given the fact he only made 11 Premier League starts last season.

Now, that opinion looks like it could become reality.

Poland international should be loaned out

In our view, it would be foolish to sell the 24-year-old, especially for a £7m loss.

Yes, Kiwior is likely to make even fewer than 11 Premier League starts next season, given the fact Calafiori is arriving, while Jurrien Timber has also returned to full fitness.

However, the Polish defender is too talented to be sold for just £13m, and it would be worth loaning him to Juventus first – one strong season in Italy could even take his value beyond £30m.

Of course, the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) might force Arsenal into a permanent sale of Kiwior this summer, but if Mikel Arteta and Edu can avoid that, a loan would make much more sense.
