Report: Manchester United are unlikely to sign 'world-class' Chelsea player despite rumours

Last summer, Chelsea sold Mason Mount to Manchester United.

The two Premier League rivals, then, are not against the idea of doing business with each other.

However, one Chelsea player looks very unlikely to make the same switch as Mount this summer despite speculation that Manchester United could move for him.

A whole host of Chelsea stars have been linked with transfers away from Stamford Bridge.

The above includes the likes of Romelu Lukaku, Armando Broja and Conor Gallagher.

Little point in Erik ten Hag asking for Chelsea man

United are looking to improve their attack after finishing in eighth place last season.

They are thought to be interested in Bologna’s Joshua Zirkzee.

If the Red Devils are unable to land Zirkzee, though, journalist Maurizio Russo has claimed that they could turn to Lukaku.

A report from TEAMtalk, however, claims that it is unlikely that United will sign Lukaku, even if Erik ten Hag makes a request for him to be brought in.

The Belgian has already had a spell at Old Trafford before leaving for Inter Milan back in 2019.

Would Chelsea sell Romelu Lukaku to Manchester United?

Lukaku clearly has no future at Chelsea after two successive loan spells away from the club.

He spent last season at AS Roma and the one before that at Inter.

As mentioned earlier, Chelsea and United recently did business, with Mount leaving the Blues for the Red Devils.

When you consider all of that, Chelsea probably would sell Lukaku, who was once described as a “world-class striker” by Thomas Tuchel, to their rivals.

United, though, do not seem to have any serious interest in the Belgium international, so you cannot see a deal happening.

Lukaku’s most likely destination is Italy, though any interested party from Serie A is going to have to stump up the cash. Chelsea will not want to sanction another loan deal for the third-most expensive signing in the club’s history.
