Report: After Max Kilman bid is accepted, West Ham now make approach to sign striker with £32m release clause

West Ham are now ready to give a striker a second chance in the Premier League – after also seeing a bid to sign Max Kilman accepted.

The Hammers offered £40m for the Wolves No.23 – who Julen Lopetegui made captain during his time at Molineux – a sum that has been accepted.

Now – according to reports in Spain – West Ham have also made contact to sign a striker…

West Ham make Alexander Sorloth approach

A story from AS in Spain now states that West Ham have approached Villarreal to ask about Alexander Sorloth.

The Spanish news outlet believe Roma have also enquired about the Norway international – with Villarreal responding to both the Italian giants and West Ham by pointing to his €38m (£32m) release clause.

AS add that Villarreal do need to make a substantial sale this summer to balance their finances, so this transfer saga could have legs.

Some West Ham fans may recall Sorloth playing in England with Crystal Palace, where he struggled tremendously, failing to score in 16 Premier League appearances.

Since leaving Selhurst Park – however – the Norwegian has flourished.

Sorloth scored 33 goals in just 49 appearances while on loan from Crystal Palace at Trabzonspor, which led RB Leipzig to spend £20m on his signature in September 2020.

It didn’t really happen for the 28-year-old in Germany as he netted just six goals in 38 appearances, although he has since become one of the best strikers in Spain.

Sorloth netted 24 goals in 90 appearances for Real Sociedad before securing a move to Villarreal, where he has impressively scored 26 goals in 41 appearances – form which saw him outscore Jude Bellingham and Robert Lewandowski last season, and miss out on the Golden Boot to Artem Dovbyk by just a single strike.

Norway international could thrive at the London Stadium

Sorloth has clearly improved since his time at Crystal Palace, and we think he could be a huge success under Lopetegui if West Ham firm up their approach with a bid.

The man from Trondheim is built for the Premier League – standing at 6ft 4in – while his finishing has developed quite impressively.

Sorloth even scored four goals in one game against Real Madrid back in May as Villarreal secured a 4-4 draw.

Of course, some fans may be wary of spending £32m on Sorloth after his unsuccessful stint at Crystal Palace, but given the fact Michail Antonio and Danny Ings only scored eight goals combined last season, something has to change up front.
