Sky reporter drops significant Max Kilman update after claims Wolves and West Ham have agreed £40m deal

Wolves defender Max Kilman is reportedly having his West Ham United medical right now, after the clubs reached an agreement for his transfer.

The story has moved very quickly today, and it now looks as though the 27-year-old will be on his way.

News broke on Thursday afternoon that Wolves had accepted a £40 million offer for Kilman, having come down from their initial £45 million asking price.

The Irons have been chasing him for months, with Julen Lopetegui determined to reunite with his former player.

Kilman, Wolves’ captain, has been a regular for the last few seasons. But Gary O’Neil is now on course to lose his skipper.

Kilman has been on West Ham’s radar for a long time.

He was even wanted by their former manager David Moyes, and he has remained a target following the Hammers’ appointment of Lopetegui earlier this summer.

Wolves had initially been very keen to keep Kilman, and set a high asking price of £45 million.

But the stance has softened recently, and today an agreement was finally reached.

And things are moving very quickly, with Kilman actually having his medical this afternoon.

Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth has reported on X: “Kilman having West Ham United medical this afternoon… clubs finalising details of deal after agreeing fee in region of £40m.

“Kilman joined Wolves from Maidenhead in 2018 – Maidenhead have significant sell-on, thought to be 15-20%.”

At the moment, it is unclear if West Ham would be paying £40 million all in one go.

What seems certain though, is that there is no player from West Ham included in the deal, which is something they offered previously.

A big development

This story has moved extremely quickly, but it now looks like it could be all wrapped up very soon.

Wolves had initially been very keen to keep Kilman. But seemingly the club felt that £40 million was a satisfactory offer, for a player who cost them just £40,000 six years ago.

Undoubtedly, it’s good business from Wolves.

While Kilman has developed into a great Premier League centre-back, the club can replace him. Someone like David Carmo could be a good option, or Thomas Beelen of Feyenoord.

We will see if Wanderers go straight in for one of those players once the Kilman move is finalised.
