The government of the Netherlands does not rule out participating in a coalition to train military personnel on Ukrainian territory, as proposed by French President Emmanuel Macron, De Volkskrant informs.

According to the news agency, the government of the Netherlands "generally does not exclude" the possibility of participating in the French initiative to organize military training in Ukraine.

At the same time, Dutch Minister of Defense Ruben Brekelmans noted that it is still too early to take a final position on this matter.

He mentioned that "it is always necessary to weigh the added value and risks."

"And in this, a broad coalition of countries supported by NATO's key allies should participate," added the Dutch minister.

What preceded

In June, French President Emmanuel Macron stated that Paris would like to create a coalition with partners to train Ukrainian military personnel on Ukrainian territory.

Later, it was reported that France proposed to its partners to join a coalition for training military personnel on Ukrainian territory. The proposal was sent to the Baltic countries, Poland, Denmark, Sweden, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and the United States.

Many countries are opposed to such an idea, fearing the risk of drawing the West into war.

However, in EU diplomatic circles, there are also significant reasons cited for training Ukrainian soldiers on Ukrainian territory. Military personnel would be more adapted, and they would not need to travel abroad for training.
