‘Considered’: Fabrizio Romano says Liverpool have really thought about signing ‘sensational’ midfielder

Liverpool did a lot of work on their midfield last summer.

Indeed, the Reds brought in no fewer than four new midfield players last year as they looked to completely transform their engine room.

However, the Reds’ work in that area isn’t done yet it would seem.

Speaking on Playback, Fabrizio Romano has claimed that he wouldn’t be surprised at all if Liverpool signed a new midfield player this summer, naming Atalanta’s Ederson as a player the Reds have considered signing this summer.

Liverpool have considered Ederson move

Romano shared what he knows about Liverpool and their interest in the ‘sensational’ midfielder.

“At the moment the situation for Liverpool. I see many Liverpool fans waiting for updates, but there’s still nothing advanced,” Romano said.

“A midfielder could still be a position to cover. I would not be surprised if Liverpool go for a midfielder this summer. They have had several meeting and contacts with the agents of Ederson from Atalanta.

“Ederson is one of the players Liverpool have considered in the midfield, but have never sent a proposal, because they know it will be difficult and complicated as Atalanta don’t want to sell both of their top players in midfield, Koopmeiners and Ederson.

“Ederson is appreciated by Liverpool yes, but it’s not a negotiation, he’s not a player they have on their guaranteed shortlist at the moment, but he is a player they appreciate.”

Ederson move could be difficult

This would be an exciting move, but, as Romano says, it will be a difficult one for Liverpool to do.

Indeed, after winning the Europa League, Atalanta will be looking to seriously kick-on next season, and they won’t be able to do that if they sell off their best players.

Teun Koopmeiners already looks set to move to Juventus, and the Bergamo-based outfit won’t want to completely decimate their midfield in the space of a few weeks ahead of a big season.

Don’t be shocked if Ederson stays at Atalanta – despite Liverpool’s interest.
