'I'm a big Chelsea fan': Switzerland star names Blues legend as his idol

Switzerland striker Kwadwo Duah is a massive Chelsea fan.

Kwadwo Duah was also born in England, making his country’s clash against the Three Lions in their Euro 2024 quarter-final tie on Saturday a very interesting one for him.

The 27-year-old is one player who Gareth Southgate’s men will have to watch out for.

He has one goal at the tournament so far, netting in Switzerland’s 3-1 win against Hungary during the group stage.

Ahead of his nation’s game against England, Duah has been speaking about his passion for English football and Chelsea.

Who is Kwadwo Duah’s Chelsea idol?

Chelsea have a lot of legends, including the likes of Didier Drogba, Frank Lampard and John Terry.

And unsurprisingly, with Duah being a striker, the first of that trio is the Ludogorets man’s idol.

Speaking in a recent press conference, he said: “Of course I follow English football! I would say I’m a big Chelsea fan.

“My idol is Didier Drogba, so yeah, I follow English football.”

Chelsea missing a player like Didier Drogba

When you look at Enzo Maresca‘s current squad, Drogba is the kind of footballer Chelsea are lacking.

He was a top centre-forward back in his day and the man for the big occasion.

Nicolas Jackson is the Blues’ first-choice striker at present and had a promising debut campaign in west London.

Last season, the Senegal international scored 17 goals in 44 appearances. Still just 23, maybe Jackson can develop into a No.9 like Drogba as he grows older.

If the former Villarreal man can become half the player Drogba was, then he will go down as a very successful Chelsea signing.

Duah’s comments are really encouraging. They show Chelsea players of the past are idolised, and that could give the club the upper hand in transfer tussles if their target grew up watching the likes of Drogba, Lampard, Terry and Eden Hazard.
