'Best player we have right now': Ilkay Gundogan blown away by £90k-a-week Man City target's technical level

Former Manchester City captain Ilkay Gundogan believes one player the club are reportedly targeting is the best technical player Germany have right now.

Gundogan was speaking ahead of Germany’s quarter-final with Spain at Euro 2024, which takes place on Friday evening.

It is set to be one of the matches of the tournament so far, with both nations having really impressed across their four games. They are the two favourites, and it may well be that whoever comes out on top goes on to win the whole thing.

Gundogan has been enjoying a really strong tournament as Germany’s captain.

But one many who has arguably played even better is Jamal Musiala, a player thought to be of interest to City, although not a priority target at this stages.

Gundogan recently praised Musiala, and was speaking about him again ahead of Germany vs Spain.

Musiala has been a joy to watch so far at Euro 2024.

He is the joint-top goalscorer so far with three goals, and the 21-year-old has enjoyed really strong outings against Scotland, Hungary, Switzerland and Denmark.

But he now has his biggest test coming up against Spain, and the £90,000-a-week ace will need to be on top form.

Spain have plenty of wonderful technicians in their squad.

But Gundogan believes Musiala is actually Germany’s very best technician. He told AS: “On a technical level, he is the best player we have right now.

“I could talk about Jamal and the Ballon d’Or right now in the future, but I don’t want to put pressure on him. He knows what he’s capable of, and so does our team and our coach.

“I also like it a lot as a human being. He’s humble and a very nice guy. I can only say positive things about him.”

Musiala’s technical ability would make him perfect for City

So Gundogan cannot see a player more technical in the Germany squad than Musiala, and it has to be said, the youngster would be such a good fit at City.

At the moment, there is not a major need for him. It would take a player like Matheus Nunes or Bernardo Silva to depart for it to make more sense.

But most City fans would simply love to see him wearing a City shirt from next season.

Pep Guardiola obviously loves his technicians, but he also loves versatile players and Musiala can operate comfortably anywhere in the attacking midfield areas and out wide.

Earlier this week, former City winger Leroy Sane said that he felt Musiala has a good chacne to win a Ballon d’Or. Between what he and Gundogan have said, he would surely make for a brilliant addition to the current City squad.
