NASCAR fined Carson Hocevar $50,000, and one insider believes it was the right call. On theDJD Reloaded podcast, Jeff Gluck of The Athletic shared his thoughts on the punishment for Hocevar, who spun Harrison Burton during a caution at the Nashville Cup Series race.

“I think $50,000 to Carson Hocevar probably gets his attention as does essentially tanking him out of Rookie of the Year contention,” Gluck said. “This is sort of a pattern with Hocevar. That’s part of the issue, because he’s sort of gone on this apology tour before he’s changing his ways. And then stuff will keep happening. If he wants to be liked and have a great reputation and have sponsors, you just can’t keep doing this stuff.”

Gluck continued, “You don’t want to have this reputation where the whole field is just like, ‘Ugh, this guy again.’ It’s not conducive to having a great long successful career. This is just the kind of stuff you gotta clean up. Look, he’s young, hopefully, he gets that under control, and again he is very likable. I think this could be easily moved on from and easily forgotten if he just didn’t do this stuff anymore.”

Along with being fined $50,000, Hocevar lost 25 driver points for violating NASCAR member Code of Conduct. The incident occurred with 56 laps remaining in the final stage of the race, and Hoevar was bothered by the way Burton was racing him.

“I don’t know, he blocks everyone every week and I blocked him once and he decided to try and wreck me under yellow,” Burton said after the race.“So, I don’t know. He’s on a lot of people’s lists as guys they don’t like racing. So, it kind of shows you why.”

Kevin Harvick expresses disappointment in Carson Hocevar

Hocevar is in his rookie season with Spire Motorsports and has recorded two top-10 finishes. He joined the Cup Series after winning four Truck Series races in 2023 for Niece Motorsports.

On Kevin Harvick’s Happy Hour show, Kevin Harvick expressed his disappointment in Hocevar. “So everything that I’ve taken in on this scenario is, I guess Harrison blocked the No. 77 and he didn’t like it, and under the caution he came up and NBC had a view of it where you could see Hocevar accelerate, and you could see the No. 21 drag the brake a little bit when he started hitting him, brake-checking him a little bit, and then Hocevar just spun him out. I was a little disappointed,” Harvick said.

“I don’t like the wrecking under the caution. I don’t like the right-rear hook. I think there’s just certain places that NASCAR needs to draw the line.”
