TV show going against the 'rules of loyalty' is 'how conflict happens', says etiquette expert

EXCLUSIVE: Love Island is known for its recouplings and drama-filled bombshells. An etiquette expert is now weighing in on just how the dating show contestants deliver consideration for others.

From bikini dress codes to how Joey Essex should have ditched Grace, etiquette expert, Nick Leighton, has spoke to Reality Tidbit about just how closely the Love Island cast follow the correct etiquette.

Love Island shows ‘good etiquette’

Interestingly, etiquette expert and host of Were You Raised By Wolves? podcast, Nick Leighton, says the Love Island contestants tend to follow good etiquette, as they “consider other people”.

He said, “They will say devastating things, such as, ‘You’re not my type on paper,” but while they’re harsh, they are polite and respectful. They also show boundaries with lots of respect.”

When it comes to table manners though, eating croissant in the garden goes against good etiquette – but they always deliver on the dress code, whether it’s nurse or bikini attire, as well as welcome bombshells.

Joey Essex’s actions were ‘selfish’

When Joey Essex decided to explore his romantic connection with new girl, Jessy, he wanted to keep chatting to Grace Jackson. However, Grace called things off as she didn’t want to be involved.

Leighton claims Joey “didn’t end that as nicely as it could have been,” adding, “Selfishly, Joey should have done it nicer and said he wasn’t feeling it. Ghosting is appropriate sometimes.”

“Joey should have said, ‘Hey, it was so fun, I had an amazing time after we reconnected,” he said, but the fact he didn’t give his partner much closure went against the Love Island etiquette in Leighton’s view.

Casa Amor ‘is how conflict happens’

Conflict happens when the actions do not match “rules of honesty and loyalty,” Leighton reveals. But he said, “It’s not bad etiquette to explore your options and for Casa Amor bombshells to turn heads.”

The contestants knowing that Casa Amor is a part of the show is a specific etiquette. “In the real world, what an insane thing it would be to start dating and get plonked into a house of hot people,” he added.

However, in the context of the series, each contestant follows the local etiquette, which are essentially the rules society agrees on in a certain area. But mostly, Leighton encourages them to always be respectful.
